My Cousin Ray
National Robin Day is fast approaching so I thought I'd take a few minutes to tell you a little bit about my cousin, over in New Zealand.
Did you know that there are actually 3 different species of Robin in New Zealand – the North Island, South Island, and Stewart Island. Each of the three main islands has its own species. They are all smallish, sparrow sized birds (about 18 cm) and have long legs for their bodies.
Ray is a South Island Robin and looks totally different to me! He has a dark grey head, neck, and back with a white to yellowish belly and can be found in patches throughout the South Island.
Although he's called a robin, technically we're not related.
